  Who is this policy for?

This policy applies to all university units, employees, students, agents, contractors, licensees, volunteers, and anyone who accesses the university network. Any system connected to the university network, including sub networks operated by individual departments.

  Why do we have this policy?

The university network exists to support activities of the university. This policy ensures the network is available and that appropriate physical and technical safeguards are in place to provide optimum and secure performance without blocking the business and research of the university.

  

Network Responsibility

University Information and Technology monitors, maintains and is responsible for the university network.

  

Security and Reliability

All connected systems must be authorized, properly configured and meet minimum reliability and security standards.

The university reserves the right to disable network access to any resource that does not meet the requirements of this policy. To avoid this, explore the Baseline Standards of Care and ensure that you meet them.

  

Wireless Hardware

Wireless network infrastructure (wi-fi routers, repeaters, etc.) can only be installed by University Information and Technology.

Can I use an Apple TV, Chromecast, Amazon Alexa, Google Home or another similar device on the OSU network?

Devices that utilze any peer-to-peer communication technology over the network are not allowed.

No. All wireless hardware must be installed by University Information and Technology.
